About

Hello! I am a second year PhD student at Carnegie Mellon’s Machine Learning Department. I am advised by Aviral Kumar.

Before coming to CMU, I studied chemistry at Cambridge and machine learning at UCL, where I worked on deep reinforcement learning at UCL DARK. I also spent a few years working at C3 AI, where I trained LLMs to code in proprietary languages.

Research

My research centres on exploring and optimising the ability of LLMs to learn, reason and adapt at test time: how can we best train models to utilise lots and lots of test-time compute to solve very complex and very long-horizon reasoning tasks?

Other Interests

I was a competitive debater in my younger years, and represented both Hong Kong and the Cambridge Union at various competitions, including the European Universities Debating Championships, which I won in 2019. These days, I enjoy playing the piano (Beethoven, Chopin etc.), playing bullet chess, and finding creative ways to win at Civilization VI.

• August 2025: Moved to Pittsburgh and started a PhD in Machine Learning at CMU.
